  • The Clay

    老青段泥 Lao Qing Duan Ni is rich in quartz and iron content, formed by the composition of the natural symbiosis of Zi Ni (purple clay) and Lv Ni (green clay) which are both original Yixing ore.

     

    Lao refers to the clay was aged through a long period, the mined clay quality was much better back then. The storage also improved microbe to make the clay quality better.

  • The Story

    These types of teapots called 仿生壶 Fang Sheng Hu, mainly imitating objects of nature, such as plants and animals. This teapot is like a stump in a "pyramid"(Shi Piao) shape, looks unique, old and full of energy. The spout pours water smoothly and powerful. This is an exceptional teapot that fully demonstrated a fantasy mood, flavors of time.

     

    Man Sheng teapots were designed by painter and seal engraver during the Qing Dynasty – Chen Hong Shou (1768-1830), and handcrafted by Yixing Zisha (purple clay) craft master Yang Peng Nian. Chen Hong Shou styled himself as “Man Sheng”(曼生), hence the title “Man Sheng teapots”.Shi Piao Teapot is one of 曼生十八式 Man Sheng's eighteen classics and has gained increased popularity in the tea society for the past two centuries. Ti Liang means with overhead handle. About this teapot, Man Sheng was inspired by the tea ceremony from an early age and was very accomplished in the study of Chinese tea. One day, he was reading 《桐君灵》"Tong Jun Ling, to investigate the medical effect of tea, just as the friend poet Qian Yu Mei visited, Man Sheng was with a new 石瓢 Shi Piao Teapot to boil tea. Qian asked, this is your most beloved type of teapot, why not put the handle over the pot so it is good to hold. Man Sheng thanked his friends and drew the drafts to design this pot.

  • Background and Stamp

    荆溪 Jing Xi was a factory in Yixing, Jiangsu Province, founded in 1926 and ended in 1976, the factory mainly focused on imitating antique teapot productions.  徐 Xu is the master's surname. 

     

    Inside of the lid, there is a number which was series and proof seal back then.
